North Charleston is the third largest city in South Carolina with a population of approximately 109,000. The city, once home to a large naval complex, is now a bustling metropolis attracting modern industries, businesses and new residents.

Joint Base Charleston lies within the city and is home to United States military forces. “ With a total population of almost 90,000 persons being serviced over four geographically separated installations, Joint Base Charleston is one of the Department of Defense's 12 joint bases. The base, officially merged on Oct. 1, 2010, is home to all four U.S. Military branches as well as Coastguardsmen.”

In recent years Boeing constructed the “company's second 787 Dreamliner final assembly and delivery facility” in North Charleston. Other major employers have facilities in North Charleston including Daimler Vans Manufacturing LLC, Cummins Turbo Technologies, Kapstone Paper and Packaging, Robert Bosch Corporation, and Verizon.

Charleston’s commercial airport is located in North Charleston making it easy to catch a national carrier flight or international flight.

Trident Technical College’s main campus is located in North Charleston. This two year community college offering associate's degrees, professional certificates and training for area industry is a member of the South Carolina technical college system.

Also in North Charleston is Charleston Southern University . This four year Christian liberal arts university is affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

North Charleston is bisected by major roadways, making commuting to any location in the Lowcountry easier. Interstates 26 and 526 meet at the center of the city. US 78 forms the eastern boundary of the city and the Ashley River is the eastern boundary. Dorchester Road originates in North Charleston and extends the city’s length into Dorchester County.
