December in the Greater Charleston area brings a full calendar of markets, parades, Santa visits, and fun runs. Whether you live here or are visiting for the holidays, you will find options for families, friends, and neighbors almost every weekend. From decorated town squares to golf carts covered in lights, these events show how local communities celebrate together this holiday season. Many are free or low-cost, and several support local vendors, schools, and nonprofits—another reason to get out and explore.

Below are a few highlights of some of the holiday events coming up:

Carnes Crossroads Holiday Market: December 6th
Carnes Crossroads kicks off the month with its annual Holiday Market on Saturday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 513 Wodin Place in Summerville. Expect carriage rides, live music, a visit from Santa, and rows of local vendors and food trucks offering handmade goods, baked treats, and giftable finds. It’s an easy way to check off some holiday shopping while enjoying the neighborhood’s “agrihood” vibe and festive atmosphere.

Point Hope Rockin’ Around the Village Green: December 6th
That afternoon, Point Hope’s Village Green transforms into a holiday scene for Rockin’ Around the Village Green, held from 3 to 6 p.m. at 1049 Point Hope Parkway. Guests can look for live music, stilt walkers, and other street performers, along with a holiday market featuring local artisans and food vendors. Many versions of this event include strolling carolers, “snow” effects, and a tree lighting to close out the evening, making it a fun stop for families and friends.

Summers Corner Ho-Ho-Holiday Farmers Market: December 7
On Sunday, December 7, Summers Corner hosts its Ho-Ho-Holiday Farmers Market from noon to 3 p.m. at 1635 Beech Hill Road in Summerville. This expanded market features around 60+ farms, vendors, and food trucks, along with photos with Santa and live holiday music. It’s a good choice if you want to buy local produce, artisan gifts, and baked goods in one stop while soaking up the lakeside setting of Summers Corner.

Santa’s Coming to Brunch at Halls Nexton: December 7 & 14
Halls Chophouse Nexton offers two Santa’s Coming to Brunch Sundays, on December 7 and December 14. Sunday brunch begins at 10 a.m., with photos with Santa on Bill’s Porch typically scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families can enjoy holiday décor, classic Halls service, and the chance for children to share their wish lists with Santa. Guests are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys or books to support Toys for Tots, adding a charitable element to the outing. Reservations are recommended.

Cane Bay Christmas Golf Cart Parade: December 13
In Cane Bay, the holidays roll in on four small wheels. The Cane Bay Christmas Golf Cart Parade returns Friday, December 13, with participants meeting at the Cane Bay Family YMCA parking lot around 3:45 p.m. before the parade sets off. Residents decorate their carts in lights, tinsel, and themed displays, then cruise through the community spreading holiday cheer. Spectators can watch from sidewalks and driveways as the parade passes by—a very “Lowcountry neighborhood” way to celebrate the season.

Summerville 2025 Christmas Parade: December 14
Summerville’s signature holiday event, the Summerville Christmas Parade, steps off on Sunday, December 14 at 2 p.m. and runs through downtown Summerville Hosted by Summerville DREAM, the parade is designed to promote positivity and showcase the “spirit of the Christmas holiday,” with floats, walking groups, and performances from local organizations. An accompanying artisan market in Hutchinson Square from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. gives parade-goers a chance to browse local crafts and holiday gifts before or after the procession.

Gift Wrap & Sip Class: December 17
For something more low-key, the Gift Wrap & Sip Class at 420 Nexton Square Drive offers a creative midweek break on Wednesday, December 17.  Typically hosted in the evening, this workshop-style event combines hands-on gift-wrapping instruction with a relaxed, social atmosphere. Participants can bring a few gifts and learn techniques for upgraded bows, folds, and tags—ideal for anyone who wants their presents to look as polished as they feel.

Nexton’s 12th Annual Cocoa Cup 5K: December 20
Rounding out the month is Nexton’s 12th Annual Cocoa Cup 5K on Saturday, December 20. Runners and walkers follow a festive course through Nexton, then celebrate at the finish line with hot cocoa. Costumes are encouraged, and the event draws a mix of serious runners, stroller-pushing parents, and groups of friends who are mainly there “for the cocoa.” It’s a fun way to get moving before the height of holiday gatherings and travel.
